The story
Markus Persson, nicknamed Notch, grew up loving LEGO and started writing computer programs when he was seven. In May 2009 he sat down and built a rough little block world he called Cave Game, and posted it online to see if anyone else liked digging. They did. That scrappy prototype became Minecraft.
What you'll learn
- An algorithm is just a recipe: precise steps a computer follows every time.
- Notch built the first playable version in about a week, then improved it in public.
- LEGO taught him that simple identical pieces can build anything.
- Kid takeaway: start small and finish something, then keep making it better.
