Question 1 of 2

A regular bit is 0 or 1. What can a qubit be?

The story

Quarky races a normal computer through a giant maze. The normal computer tries one path at a time, but Quarky uses qubits that hold many possibilities at once and let the wrong paths cancel each other out. The right answer rings out loudest at the end. Quantum computers will not replace your tablet, but for certain giant puzzles they are unbeatable.

What you'll learn

  • A bit is 0 or 1; a qubit can be a mix of both
  • Entangled qubits work together as a team
  • Wrong answers can cancel out, boosting the right one
  • Qubits need extreme cold and quiet to survive
  • Quantum computers are great for special problems, not everything
